How Habit keeps your data and personal information safe

Your writing belongs to you. Here is what Habit stores and what your choices mean.

Writing and drafts

You can write before creating an account. Unfinished drafts are kept in this browser's local storage when it is available. They are not synced until you save an entry while signed in. On a shared device, clear or download a guest draft before leaving. Signing out clears this account's drafts from this device.

Your saved journal

Saved entries are stored in Firebase with account access controls. Connections use encryption in transit. Authorized administrators can access stored entries. Habit does not provide end-to-end encryption, so you should not interpret “private journal” as a promise that the service operator cannot access the contents.

Optional AI

Saving a written entry does not automatically send it for AI analysis. The optional guided check-in uses external AI providers to generate questions and reflections from the content you supply. Free-form answers can contain identifying information, even without an account name or email attached. Do not include information you do not want processed by the provider.

A beta interest signup is not permission to analyze your existing writing. Any future written-journal analysis needs a separate, explicit choice explaining its scope.

Export and deletion

Open Privacy & Data to download your entries as readable Markdown or structured JSON. Export includes prompt text, your writing, guided-entry details, and saved ideas.

Delete individual entries from your journal. Deleting your full journal history also removes cached pattern reflections and saved ideas. Account and billing records remain. This is journal deletion, not account deletion. To request account deletion, contact Habit.

Usage measurement

Habit records actions such as opening the writing page and saving an entry to understand whether the product is useful. The writing funnel does not include the words you write or the prompt text. Cohort records track distinct writing days rather than treating several entries in one sitting as a return.
