Everything you need to know about Habit
Habit is a guided journaling app you can use on any device with a browser. Each session is a 7-question guided check-in that takes about 2 minutes. You don't write a single word — you answer by tapping multiple-choice options that match how you feel. Your answers lead to the next question, and by question 4 or 5 the questions get deeper and more personalized. After your last question, you are presented with 3 insights based on your reflection journey. After you pick the one that resonates most, it's transformed into an insight map that lets you dig deeper, make a commitment to a small step, and see what themes keep coming up. As you do more check-ins, thematic connections become stronger and your journal becomes more than just a log of check-ins — it starts painting a picture of your emotional growth and development. Habit is free to use, with additional personalization and instant insights available with Habit Premium. Learn more about pricing.
No — for the main guided check-in, there is no typing required. You answer every question by tapping simple multiple-choice options. Every check-in also has an optional reflection field where you can type a deeper response if you want to. Some days you will want to; other days you won't need it. It is only there if you need it.
About 2 minutes. The guided check-in is designed to fit into busy schedules without adding friction.

Yes. Decades of research show that guided journaling delivers the same mental health benefits as traditional journaling, including improved emotional regulation, reduced anxiety and depression symptoms, and greater self-awareness. Studies have found that structured questioning can be just as effective as free-form writing in helping you identify patterns in your emotional responses and gain clarity on your thoughts and feelings. For many people, the guided format actually makes these benefits more accessible by removing the barrier of facing a blank page. It's important to note that journaling never replaces professional treatment, but it can be part of a supportive system that makes a meaningful difference in mental health care. That's perfectly fine! Habit doesn't use a streak system to get you to use it every day. Optionally, we send out gentle daily reminders that Habit is here for you. Regular reflection is associated with better outcomes, so we recommend using it as often as you can, without guilt for missing a day (or a week).
